आपला भारत देश हा कृषिप्रधान देश आहे. शेती हा आपल्या देशाच्या अर्थव्यवस्थेचा कणा आहे. हे सगळे आपण बघत आणि ऐकत आलो आहोत. सध्या एकंदरीतच जगातील आर्थिक स्थिती काही चांगली नाही. तरीही आपल्या देशाची आर्थिक स्थिती हि चांगली राहावी असेच तुम्हा आम्हा सर्वांना वाटते. हे होणेही शक्य आहे पण केव्हा जेव्हा आपला शेतकरी सुखी आणि संपन्न होईल तेव्हा. ज्यावेळी आपल्या शेतकऱ्यावर दुर्दैवी आत्महत्येची वेळ येणे थांबेल तेव्हा. त्यामुळे हा विषय गांभीर्याने घेण्याची वेळ आली आहे आणि ती टाळण्याचे किंवा त्यातून बाहेर निघण्याचे उपाय काय? या सर्व गोष्टींचे चिंतन शेतकरी व देशातील इतर जबाबदार विभाग आणि आजची तरुण पिढी यांनी केल्यास, नक्की शेतीला एक उत्तम व्यवसाय म्हणून चांगले दिवस आल्या शिवाय राहणार नाहीत. आपला अन्नदाता शेतकरी देखील सुखी व संपन्न झाल्याशिवाय राहणार नाही. शेतकरी सुखी तर पूर्ण देश सुखी हे विसरता कामा नये.

या सर्व गोष्टी लक्षात घेता सध्या आधुनिक शेतीक्रांती होणे हि काळाची गरज बनली आहे. यामध्ये प्रामुख्याने सेंद्रिय शेतीचा वापर करणे. ज्यामधून आपल्याला निरोगी व विषाणू मुक्त जमीन, हवामान व उत्पादन मिळेल. या सगळ्यात महत्वाची बाब येते ती म्हणजे सेंद्रिय शेती मध्ये खत औषधे कोणती द्यावीत. मग ती पिकांच्या व जमिनीच्या पोषणासाठी असोत किंवा पिकांवर येणाऱ्या कीड व रोगांच्या निवारण्यासाठी असोत. आपल्या निसर्गाने याचीहि सोय करून ठेवली आहे आपल्यासाठी. जनावरांपासून मिळणारे शेन, गोमुत्र इत्यादींचा वापर. यामध्ये शेणखत या खताचा वापर करा सेंद्रिय शेती करताना, असे सांगितल्यावर असेही वाटते कि शेण सुकवून त्याचा वापर करावा म्हणजे शेणखत होय तर असे होत नाही. शेणखत बनविणे हि एक पद्धत आहे आणि त्या पद्धतीनेच ते बनविले गेले पाहिजे. तेव्हा त्याचा हवा तसा उपयोग होण्यास मदत होते.

जनावरांचे गोठे हे कोणत्या पद्धतीचे आहेत हे देखील यात बघितले पाहिजे. त्यामुळे शेणखत बनविण्यास अनेक गोष्टींची मदत होवू शकते. म्हणजे काही गोठे हे डोक्याजवळ डोके अशा पद्धतीचे असतात. तर काही गोठे हे शेपटीकडे शेपूट असलेल्या पद्धतीचे असतात. तर काही गोठे हे मुक्त संचार  पद्धतीचे असतात जिथे जनावरांना बांधलेले नसते. यातील पक्के गोठे आहेत कि कच्चे असेही बरेच भाग आहेत. यातला महत्वाचा मुद्दा हा कि, गोठ्यात जनावरांचे शेण, शेतातील व गोठ्यातील काडीकचरा, उरलेले वैरण, व गोमुत्र इत्यादींचा उपयोग शेणखत बनविण्यासाठी केला जातो. शेणखत हे विशिष्ट जागी ढिगारा पद्धतीने किंवा खड्डा पद्धतीने बनविले जाते. यासाठी जी पद्धत ज्यांना बनविण्यासाठी सोयीस्कर आहे तिची निवड केली जावू शकते. नंतर हा ढीग किंवा खड्डा शेण मातीच्या काल्याने लीपणे आवश्यक आहे. कारण यातील सर्व गोष्टी या कुजणे महत्वाचे असते, ते जेव्हा चांगल्या पद्धतीने कुजतात तेव्हा जे खत तयार होते ते खरे शेणखत होय.
