वनशेती करत असताना महत्वाची बाब म्हणजे जमीन सर्वसाधारण असेल तरी चालते. त्यासाठी विशेष चांगल्या जमिनीची आवश्यकता नसते. सोबतच त्यामध्ये आंतरपिके घेतली जावू शकतात. या बरोबरच वनशेतीसाठी विशेष पाण्याची गरज नसते. मुबलक पाणी उपलब्ध असले तरी पिके तग धरतात व उत्पादन देतात. कुठल्याही पिकांसाठी काही गोष्टी अत्यंत महत्वाच्या असतात त्या म्हणजे जमीन, पाणी, वातावरण, मनुष्यबळ, बाजारभाव इत्यादी. वनशेती करताना मनुष्यबळ कमी प्रमाणात लागते. एकदा लागवड झाली कि त्यात खूप काही लक्ष देण्याची आवश्यकता नसते. वनशेती करताना एक चांगली गोष्ट होते ती म्हणजे ज्या पिकाची लागवड केलेली असते, त्याचा पालापाचोळा जमिनीवर पडत राहतो. त्यामुळे जमिनीचा पोत सुधारण्यास मदत होते, म्हणून त्या जमिनीत आंतरपिके चांगल्या प्रकारे घेतली जावू शकतात. तसेच या पिकांना कुठल्याही प्रकारचे हवामान विशेष असे नुकसानकारक ठरत नाही. त्याचे कारण म्हणजे हि पिके नाजूक प्रकारातील नसतात. त्यामुळे एखाद्या वर्षी कमी पाऊस झाला किंवा जास्त पाऊस झाला तर त्याचा या पिकांवर चुकीचा प्रभाव दिसून येत नाही. तसेच या पिकांना जास्त प्रमाणात खर्च येत नाही. म्हणजे कुठले कीड किंवा रोग विशेष असे जडत नाहीत. त्यामुळे फवारण्या करण्याचा खर्च वाचतो. 

सध्या चुकीच्या पद्धतीने होत असलेल्या जंगलतोडीमुळे सरकार वनशेती करण्यास प्रोत्साहन देत आहे. त्यासाठी अनेक प्रकारच्या योजना राबवत आहे. या गोष्टींची देखील माहिती घेणे आवश्यक आहे. वनशेती करताना कुठली पिके घ्यावीत त्यामुळे चांगला लाभ होवू शकतो हे बघणे गरजेचे आहे. आपली जमीन कोणत्या प्रकारची आहे, आपल्याकडील हवामान कोणत्या प्रकारचे आहे. त्यात कोणते पिक चांगले येईल हे ठरवून पिकांची लागवड केली पाहिजे. तसेच ते पिक कोणत्या कारणासाठी लागवड करत आहोत याचीही तेवढीच माहिती असणे गरजेचे आहे. या गोष्टीची माहिती असली तर त्यांना बाजार चांगला मिळण्यास मदत होईल. सगळ्या गोष्टी नियोजन पद्धतीने केल्यास उत्पादनाला बाजारभाव चांगला मिळेल. कुठल्याही प्रकारचे नुकसान होणार नाही. महाराष्ट्रातील हवामानात बांबू, साग, निलगिरी, कडुलिंब इत्यादी पिके चांगली घेतली जावू शकतात. या सोबतच महारुख याचे उत्पादन चांगले घेतले जावू शकते. त्याचा उपयोग काडीपेटी बनविण्यासाठी केला जातो.
